The upgraded Silangit Arport started operating about 2 years ago, with initially quite some hick-ups. Silangit Airport, sometimes also referred to as SiBorongBorong Airport, is located close to the main road from Parapat to Tarutung – Padang Sidempuan.
At the moment Silangit Airport is served on a more or less daily basis from Jakarta with some 10 flights a day by the following airlines:
For Tuk Tuk – Samosir the most interesting are the Sriwijaya Flights, most of the days one or two direct (non-stop) flights from Jakarta to Silangit.
Compared to flying in via Kuala Namu it is cheaper, by private car transportation, and faster to come to Tuk Tuk from Jakarta with Sriwijaya via Silangit.
The duration of the flight from Jakarta to Kuala Namu or Jakarta to Silangit is more or less the same being 2 hrs. Also the ticket costs are the same. During low season some Rp 800.000,-- for a one way ticket.
For the road transportation from Kuala Namu to Parapat one has to schedule minimum 4 hrs, while the road transportation from Silangit to Parapat is maximum 2 hrs. As the distance is much less transportation costs are also substantially less. Of course for Tuk Tuk there is still the ferry crossing of Lake Toba starting from Parapat.
Flight times are convenient if one knows what to do. Arrival times of Sriwijaya at Silangit coming from Jakarta are 09.30 h and 12.15 h. No problem to reach Tuk Tuk – Samosir the same day, using any available transportation mode.
Departure times are 10.00 h and 12.45 h. One can easily catch the 12.45 h flight by using public transport all the way from Tuk Tuk to the Airport. The first flight may seem a bit tricky if one thinks of starting with the first passenger ferry of 07.00 h from Tuk Tuk. The alternative is to take the first passenger ferry of 06.00 h from Tomok to Parapat. With a private car one can easily be at the airport before 09.00 h.
The real fast way from the Silangit Airport to Horas Family Home is to combine road and water transport. In this way one can be in Horas Family Home about 1.5 hr after landing at Silangit Airport. It also works the other way around. It means by car from the airport to Balige, 30 minutes, and from Balige with a one hour speedboat ride over Lake Toba to Horas Family Home.
For the time being Silangit is only being served from Jakarta, not counting direct flights from Medan and some other local airports, but rumour has it that within the foreseeable future direct flights will be coming in from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and believe it or not from Mumbai and / or Chennai.
We are ready to arrange for your transportation under our credo ‘EXCLUSIVE & EXCELLENT’, but we only arrange for transportation for guests actually staying with us.
Along the route Silangit Airport – Balige – Porsea – Parapat there are two places where you may want to stop on your way to or from the Airport.
The ride from the airport to Balige takes about half an hour. This is one of, if not the best museums I have seen in Indonesia. A must for anybody interested in Batak Culture. In such case schedule minimum 2 hrs. The food in the Restaurant is also very good.
Taman Eden is at half an hour drive from Parapat and it is well worth a visit if you are interested in wild orchids. In such case schedule minimum an hour for your visit.
