Many accommodations in Tuk Tuk say that they have Hot Water, and most of the times this is true, especially if you take the statement to the letter. However, the practice with how the hot water is provided may be a bit different from what you expect.
Regarding Hot Water there are quite a few different options, such as:
The Hot Water was working till yesterday, today it is not working, but for sure it will work again next week. The same statement can be used over and over again and be valid for weeks if not months on a row.
The Hot Water is working, but unfortunately it is not working in your room.
At some places at special request you may be provided with a kettle of hot water which you can mix with the cold water in your ‘mandi bak’ before scoping and splashing it over you.
We have one Hotel in Tuk Tuk, which shows itself as a 2 Star Hotel. This hotel provides the guests with Hot Water from 6 am – 8 am and from 6 pm – 8 pm. Of course this only holds when the Hot Water is working and that your room is entitled to Hot Water.
Another option you may come across is that you have a limited choice, meaning you have cold water or hot water. The cold water freezing cold or the hot water boiling hot. With a little bit of luck, your facility comes with a ‘mandi bak’ so you just have to find something to mix the hot water with the cold water in your ‘mandi bak’, before you scope and splash it over you.
So if an accommodation promises hot water it does not mean that you will have 24 h / day hot water in your room, which comes from a shower, and that you can mix the temperature to your liking. If hot water, 24 h / day, in your room is important for you, please make sure that when booking your room with any accommodation the accommodation confirms that you have 24 h / day hot water in your room.
