in Tuk Tuk  is working if it works. If it does not work, it may be working tomorrow. If it does not
work tomorrow it may be working next week or next month. The Credit Card Cash Withdrawal

ATM in Tuk Tuk - Samosir

Checking the information below from 3 years back I found that most of that information is still up to date. But now the good news is that since October 12, 2017 we have a real ATM in Tuk Tuk. This is the MANDIRI Bank ATM which you find at MAFIR Mini Market. Mafir Mini market is located somewhere between Horas Family Home and Carolina Hotel. For specific directions just ask any local, everybody in Tuk Tuk knows Mafir.

The ATM accepts all local credit and debit cards. I tried two foreign credit cards, one worked and the other one was rejected for which I could not find a reason. Anyway, as the ATM is conveniently located in Tuk Tuk my suggestion is to give this one a try before heading of to Tomok, Ambarita or Parapat.

ATM AMBARITA

The good news is that as per today, October 31, 2014, the ATM is operating again. Even better news is that it now issues Rp 100.000,-- notes and that one can withdraw Rp 2.500.000,-- in one action. Not sure whether it is accepting the regular foreign cards.

The BRI ATM in Ambarita is 'out of order' since October 7. The good news is that there is a brand new BRI ATM in Tomok which works when using local issued cards. You find this ATM on the left side of the main road in Tomok, coming from Tuk Tuk.

On October 16 the ATM in Ambarita is still waiting repair, which may take another day, week if not month. The new ATM in Tomok is operating nicely. After having used this ATM two times we have decided not to use this ATM anymore for the simple reason that from the outside everybody can clearly see what you are doing inside. I don't think that I have to explore in further details what the possible consequences of this will be.

ATM’s in TUK TUK - SAMOSIR

We have no ATM’s in Tuk Tuk. The closest to an ATM in Tuk Tuk is the CREDIT CARD CASH WITHDRAWAL offered by Horas Family Home to guests and non-staying guests. For further details see the info at the bottom of this page.

We have a few ATM’s on Samosir Island, but ……..

The two ATM’s in Tomok are normally ’out of operation’. These just broke down, waiting repair, which may take another week, month or year.

The ATM in Pangururan went ‘out of operation’ in last June, it is now waiting for repair which may take another day, another week, another month or year.

The ATM in Ambarita is the most reliable ATM on Samosir. But sometimes it happens that it is just not working. Repair normally is within a week. Another thing with this ATM is that it is just empty on a very regular basis with only one refill per week on Wednesday. Many of the foreign cards are not accepted by this ATM.

So your best bet would be the ATM’s in Parapat. There are two ATM’s in Parapat which normally work. This is the BNI ATM on the main street in Parapat. Unfortunately this ATM likes to eat Cards for whatever reason it thinks fit on a regular basis say once every two weeks. So most of the time you will be safe with this ATM. After swallowing your card it normally only takes a few days to get your card back, as the fellow who will retrieve your card has to come from Siantar. Kindly note that you will only get the card back if the name on the card is exactly the same as in your Passport.

I have never heard of problems with the Mandiri ATM also at the main road in the corner of the big petrol station.

The one way crossing from Tuk Tuk with the passenger ferry to Tiga Raja Harbour (Parapat) takes about 40 min. At Tiga Raja Harbour hop on an angkot for the 5 to 10 minutes ride to the ATM.

As said the closest to an ATM in Tuk Tuk is the Credit Card Cash Withdrawal offered by Horas Family Home.
